2009 X GAMES CHAMPION HONORED AT CITY HALL FOR HER INSPIRATION TO DEAF COMMUNITY

Ashley Fiolek – 2009 AMA Motocross – Steel City
Ashley Fiolek will be honored at L.A.‘s City Hall for her accomplishments and achievements despite being born deaf.
In tribute to “Deaf Awareness Month” in Los Angeles, Councilman Tony Cardenas is honoring the 18-year-old athlete who clinched the Gold Medal in the 2009 X Games Women’s Moto-X and the 2008 AMA Women’s Motocross Championship. Ashley Fiolek, born profoundly deaf, keeps beating the odds. As a matter of fact, she also secured the 2009 AMA Women’s Motocross Championship this month despite crashing her bike and enduring a broken collarbone.
This Friday, Cardenas will hold a press conference in the City Hall rotunda alongside Ashley and her Honda Red Bull Racing CRF250R honoring her achievements as well as the accomplishments of other role models in the deaf and hard of hearing communities. A video montage of Ashley’s courageous riding will be displayed on a screen. Following the press conference, each council office has been asked to join Cardenas in recognizing extraordinary deaf and hard of hearing individuals in their respective districts during the City Council meeting.
