It’s the middle of the week, it’s a work day, the sun is out…..what do ya do? Go into the garage, blow the dust off your gear and go snowboarding!! The Core Crew set up shop at the base Loveland Ski Resort to celebrate opening day.

Colorado officially opened for the 2008-09 ski season yesterday, October 15th @ 8:30 am. Anyone who played hooky from work or school was lucky to rip laps in some great early season conditions. An intermediate run, over a mile long, was open from top to bottom via Chair 1. Below your stick lay a buttery 18 inch base and halfway down was a rail and flat box set up to get yer jib on…not too shabby for Oct 15?
Every year in Colorado, it’s a race to see which resort will open first and win bragging rights for being the first ski resort open in North America. Loveland won the title 6 years in a row between 99-2005, lost to Arapahoe Basin the last two and this year ended up in a tie. Both resorts are only about 8 miles apart and each lie on the continental divide. With lower temperatures and earlier season snowfall, they usually are the only two contenders competing for the title.
I asked John Sellers, Marketing Director of Loveland, how it felt to share the title of “first to open” with Abasin. He replied, “we are proud to recapture at least a share of the title again.” Spoken like a true, laid back Coloradian…
If you are passing through the Rocky Mountains this season , check out Loveland. With minimal crowds and some of the highest annual snowfall in Colorado, you may discover your new favorite hill. http://www.skiloveland.com/
