CORE Action Report: Gainesville, FL Skatepark Best Trick Contest

The Gainesville Skatepark and FTK Magazine hosted “Wheels Of Fortune” A unique best trick contest where the skaters get paid after landing a legit sick trick.

Over 30 shops from the area where there and repping as 5 skater teams. Owners Phil Hajal and Josh had a great turn out and one of the first official contests at the park.

Tony Reddington from FTK was there with Dana Nichols to run the contest. Tony had 3Gs in CASH! after the trick went down, T-Red would make the call if it was good enough for CASH. Skaters were landing tricks and getting fast 10s and 20s handed to them. “I made thirty bucks so far” said Dylan Durkin from Cocoa Beach. the skaters were stoked for the most part. There was an element of chaos, as there always is in the best trick formats.

Bill Rohan was on the MIC with Clyde Singleton keeping the flow and Martin Ramos came through as the DJ as well as helping with the chaos and bringing two skate teams!

Shops like Westside, Graffiti, KONA, Stone edge, SPoT, Avatar, Cocoa Beach sk8park, MESH, SkateLab, and many others were there repping and tryin to make cash. Each shop had 5 riders and the shop that earned the most would be the winner.

Westside Skate Shop was the winner (meaning they got the most dollar bills totaled from their 5 man crew) with Graffiti Skate Zone coming in 2nd.

Outside there was an all day BBQ and mini trade show. Brands like World Industries, F54, VOX, Elwood,FTK, Sambazon, and Core were all outside providing shade and promoting their brands.

Brands were flowing stickers, and kids were even getting autographs from Mike Peterson, Kyle Berrard, Clyde, Billy Rohan and other pros in the place.

All of these companies showed up to support the love of the skateboard and to try and counter these tougher than tough times. Big props to all of you!!
